2017 Homeless Memorial Walk
December 21, 2017 @ 4:30 pm - 7:00 pm
Sadly, despite great strides to end homelessness, people in our community die without a home each year. As we continue to work towards a world where no life is lived or lost in homelessness, it is important to pause and remember these neighbors.
The community is invited to join in the 2017 Homeless Memorial Walk of Remembrance on Thursday, December 21, 2017.
Each December since 2012, Partners Ending Homelessness, AmeriCorps Partnership to End Homelessness, and the Interactive Resource Center have co-sponsored the Homeless Memorial Walk for Guilford County. The purpose of the walk is to bring attention to the tragedy of homelessness and to remember those who have paid the ultimate price for our nation’s failure to end homelessness.
This year, the service will begin with a program at the Interactive Resource Center. Scheduled speakers include Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan, Brian Hahne (Executive Director of Partners Ending Homelessness) and individuals with lived experience of homelessness. The walk will begin after the speakers.
Parking is available across the street from the Interactive Resource Center. There will be no shuttle this year.
The event is open to the public. Interested citizens will gather at IRC and walk to remember those homeless and formerly homeless who died and call for an end to homelessness. The walk will end at City Hall (300 W. Washington St.)
